Derek Sanderson Jeter was born on June 26,1974. He has been playing for the New York Yankees for 19 seasons. By winning the World Series five times, he is known to be the central figure of the Yankees during the 2000's.

Jeter was drafted right out of high school in 1992 and his first game was in 1995. It only took him a year to become the starting shortstop for the Yankees. During the same year, he won the rookie of the year award. He is considered to be one of the greatest players of all time. Because of his postseason efforts, he is named "Mr. November and "Captain Clutch".

Jeter is one of the highest marketed players, even athletes, in sports industry today. Many players, teammates and even opponents, mention that Jeter is one of the best players of his generations. Outside of the Jeter founded the Turn 2 Foundation. This establishment helps children and teenagers to find shelter from drug and alcohol addiction.

They were founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1901 and were known as the Baltimore Orioles. In 1903 the team moved to New York City and changed their name to the Highlanders. It was 1913 when the Highlanders changed their name to the Yankees.

The New York Yankees are owned by Yankee Global Enterprises, which is controlled by the George Steinbrenner. He purchased the team in 1973. Joe Girardi, who is the former catcher, is the team's manager. Their home games were held at the Yankee Stadium until they moved to a new park with the same name. They have won the world series 27 times, earned the AL Pennants 40 times, and conquered the East Division Titles.
